Barefoot among the books

…well, actually, we kept our shoes on, but it was a great day out.

Last week I took a trip to the fabulous Barefoot Books UK base in Summertown, Oxford with three of my StoryVine friends – Julie Fulton, Terri Daneshyar and Rowen Wilde.

Barefoot Books is a jewel in the publishing industry: a success story that doesn’t depend on the commercialisation of childhood. Their books are little gems, beautifully illustrated with inspiring stories from cultures all around the world. The Oxford studio is a warm friendly place for local mums and children to meet up for coffee and story telling events in a relaxed environment surrounded by a treasure trove of books.

Tessa Strickland, one of Barefoot’s founders, came down to meet us for coffee. She was very generous with her time chatting with the group and sharing her passion for the company and it’s ethos, along with an invaluable insight into today’s children’s publishing industry.

We all came home fired with inspiration – and the lunch was very tasty too!
